FIREWORKS (2005): As if by magic, chance and coincidence converge in an artist’s studio. By 2005 I had outgrown my studio on Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles. Needing a wall expanse to view larger paintings from a distance, I found a new space nearby on Washington Boulevard. Walking into that studio for the first time, I noticed that a stack of discarded boxes had been left behind containing empty folders, each one printed with the words “Fireworks in June.” I used these folders for a series of graphite drawings that were produced concurrently with my Fireworks paintings.
