In conjunction with the world premier exhibition of Lucas Reiner’s The Stations, the Athenaeum Center for Thought and Culture in Chicago presents a public conversation with the artist and curator Michael Darling titled “Nature as Metaphor for the Human Condition” on April 11, 2023 (Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.). This free event will be held in the Athenaeum Center’s Paradiso Performance Space and offers an intimate opportunity to meet Reiner while viewing his fifteen large-scale paintings that comprise The Stations.
The artist’s interlocutor Michael Darling is a co-founder of Museum Exchange, having formerly served from 2010-21 as James W. Alsdorf Chief Curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Chicago where he organized exhibitions spotlighting the work of Andrea Bowers, Joseph Cornell, Takashi Murakami, Isa Genzken, and the late Virgil Abloh among many others. Darling previously held curatorial positions at the Seattle Art Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles.
Engaging the profound capacity of art to embody the universal human longing to comprehend suffering, loss, and the passage of time, the Athenaeum Center’s exhibition of Reiner’s The Stations has been extended to May 31, 2023.
