Lucas Reiner, Five Views on La Cienega Blvd #3, 2010, watercolor on paper, 13 x 9 in. (33 x 22.9 cm)

Among the works presented in an exhibition titled “A Perfect Rhythm” at the Telluride Gallery in Colorado, which runs from February 9 through April 16, 2021, are selections from Reiner’s two series on paper and linen: Five Views of La Cienega (2010) and Czernowitz (2018). This exhibition features both landscapes and still lifes by four artists that hail from the U.S. West Coast (including Dan McCleary, Christine Nguyen and Andy Woll), whose art works share an affinity for their natural surroundings. Taking perennial inspiration from urban trees and reflecting a sensitivity to each painting’s unique material substrate, Reiner’s watercolors and temperas express the ways nature embodies the demands of contemporary life, reflecting the accommodation of organic growth to societal strictures. As quoted in the Telluride Daily Planet, the artist described these paintings as “an object of culture that attempts to replicate the processes of nature.”
